Abstracts of the professional experience-exchange of the Days of Excellence

A Creative Fusion of Two Artists

Speakers: Maestro Nicolas Bertoux, France, and maestro Cynthia Sah, Taiwan

Abstract: Cynthia Sah, from an oriental background with a Western education, is interested in intimacy of forms. While Nicolas Bertoux, with his interior architect training, envisions site specific artwork, relating to environment and architecture. Wanting to immerse themselves in sculpture, Cynthia and Nicolas met in Versilia, known as the world capital of marble and sculpture. This historical area offers direct contact with marble quarries, renovative technology for marble industry and experienced craftsmen. The differences in artistic approach of Cynthia and Nicolas have developed into a complementary fusion for their numerous collaborations in public artworks. Most of their collaborative works are installed in Taiwan due to recent interest in public art and other monumental artworks can be also seen in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Recombining expertise to create new professions in the field of Architecture

Speaker: Marco Brizzi, Architect, Founder of iMage, Professor, California State University in Florence and University of Ferrara, Italy

Multimedia and Cultural Heritage

Speaker: Vincenzo Capalbo, Architect, Art Media Studio, Florence, Italy

Presenting also the preview of the "Life Beyond Tourism® Movie" DVD for the Hotels in Florence.

In 1999 architects Vincenzo Capalbo and Marilena Bertozzi founded in Florence the company Art Media Studio. The activity of the studio is manifold and it embrace the real and virtual architecture, spacing between project of urban redevelopment, exhibition setting up, documentaries production and ideation of videoinstallations and full immersion virtual settings, realizing real art places to be visited or virtual environments to watch and live, creating a face to face between the masterpiece and the spectator.
Many videoinstallations and documentaries realized by Art Media Studio are today part of museums and permanent exhibitions.

Craftsmanship: the Importance of Culture

Speaker: Antonio De Vito, I Muri dell'Arte, Antonio De Vito's Fresco Workshop, Florence, Italy

Abstract: The presentation of the activities of Maestro de Vito with some reference to the fresco techniques and the development of the concept that craftmenship today cannot be reduced to only manual and technical ability, but must be supported by research and culture.
All explained through the commentary of his research done to reconstruct the fresco of the Battle of Anghiari, the lost masterpiece of Leonardo Da Vinci.

The opportunities and threats of the internet in the art market and creative economy

Speaker: Francesco Gagliardi, TwoCubed srl and the Chianciano Art Museum

Abstract: The internet is having a profound impact on the art market and the creative economy in general, and offers many powerful tools and opportunities which can transform the way artists, writers, designers, galleries and museums operate.
Francesco will draw on his experiences at Google, the Chianciano Art Museum and TwoCubed and give practical advice on how to exploit the internet using online advertising, online publishing and distribution, online networking and other tools. He will present AgentYou, a soon to be launched online platform for the creation, publishing, marketing and distribution of creative contents which he is currently working on.

When the Body Dominates the Mind

Speaker: Fabrizio Galli, Sculptor, Quando il Corpo Domina la Mente, Italy

The work "When The Body Dominates The Mind" of the artist Fabrizio Galli (Viareggio) consists of fourteen statues dedicated to all peoples of the world that have done and will use the masks. The idea is based on an external work of art to give a welcome in the Carnival Citadel in Viareggio. Mr. Galli wanted to create a majestic and original sculpture based on the history of the masks. The artist thought to a classic body that holds its head with one hand, symbolizing the loss of rationality, and with the other hand it supports a mask that becomes the new face of the statues. Very different masks in order to represent the various cultures of the world that always use these artifacts in their religious, theatrical and artistic ceremonies. There is India, China, Greece, Native America, Africa, Japan, Bali, Europe, Aztec, Maori, Sri Lanka, Tibet, New Guinea and the mask for Viareggio.

Sustainable tourism and local development: your future is here! (Turismo sostenibile e sviluppo locale: il tuo futuro è qui!)

Abstract: Over the past six decades, tourism has experienced continued growth and diversification to become one of the largest and fastest growing economic sectors in the world.
The “Action for a more Sustainable European Tourism”, report of the Tourism Sustainable Group on February 2007, is aimed to stimulate action to make European tourism more sustainable and to maintain this as a continuous process, while the “Agenda for a sustainable and competitive European tourism”, COM(2007) 621 on October the 19th 2007, on 3.2.1. seek to mobilise actors of the Tourism to produce and share knowledge in order to support the development of sustainable tourism. Based on this pillars, the European University for Tourism in Tirana (Albania) proposes consequential actions for the sustainable tourism as a tool for local development, as the diffused hotel, innovative communication tools and the sustainable hotel.

Legenda of the Programme of the Festival

In the Conference Area

Experience and Exchange with Professionals: Professionals coming from different sectors will share with the participants their successful account. They will talk about their work and their achievements. Furthermore, they will provide a closer look into the professional world and show the opportunities that are out there. The informality of this meeting will give the opportunity to ask for clarification and  advice.

Company presentations: Professionals and researchers coming from companies working in the different sectors of interest, will have the opportunity to update the international professionals, the studios, the universities and the students on their products, their company's philosophy, their working procedures, their experiences, their research and achievements to create a bridge between the professional world and the academic one.

Degree Presentation Session: Graduates participating in the Festival have the opportunity to explain their projects to a professional audience during  this specific sessions. One of those students will be selected by the Evaluation Committee to win the "Smart Presentation Award" which will be announced during the closing ceremony of the Festival.

Conferences: Professionals and professors from different sectors and from all over the world will gather in Florence to talk about specific and interesting topics while they involve the participation of the audience. The first part will be structured as a normal lecture and the second and main part of the conference will  be for questions and interventions. This setup will help to create a learning atmosphere.

Performances: Performing Arts Schools will be asked to participate and perform live. Art schools will organize exhibitions and shows.

In the Exhibition Hall

Company Exhibition: Sponsors and companies will have the opportunity to interact with the participants, share with them  their experience and look for interesting young people, being present with a desk in a special area open all day.

Universities and Institutions exhibition: in the exhibition area there will also be an area dedicated to universities and institutions to present themselves: courses, masters, internships and opportunities that they offer to the students and graduates from all over the world.

Virtual Expo on PowerPoint: all projects uploaded in the degree database at www.florence-expo.com and participating in the 2009 Edition will be shown continuously in an open area during the days of the Festival.  This way the audience will have the opportunity to see the projects and later go online and vote.

Degree Exposition with Poster Display: all the projects paticipating in the Virtual Expo can also be shown in the exhibition area on a poster support that should be sent to the organizing office or brought to the Festival. This way the projects will be visited by the participants of the Festivals, by the companies and expositors and by all the people interested.  

The Parallel Events

Workshops - Before the Festival there will be the opportunity for students and graduates to participate in the  international workshops promoted by the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation and organized together with several universities and professors coming from all over the world. The workshops will start on the 21st of November and have sessions until the morning of the 24th of November. Afterwords the participants will have the opportunity to participate in the Florence World Festival and present their work during a special session on the 27th of November.
To provide the best interaction possible, the workshop will have a limited number of participants that will be decided by the organizer.
